ABSTRACT
SELECTION AND ASSIGNMENT
Members of the Organization & Program
Committee will review all abstracts submitted
by registered participants and will assign these
abstracts for either oral or poster presentations.
A Committee Representative will notify participants
of the type (oral or poster), date and time
of their presentation by August 1, 2010.
ORAL
AND POSTER FORMAT
Conference Oral and Poster Session Formats: Scientific platform sessions will be introduced by 'state of the art,' keynote addresses and followed by a series of oral presentations. Keynote and selected speakers will be allotted between 10 to 20 minutes for their presentations in the platform sessions. Questions from the audience will be addressed during a 5 minute discussion period at the end of each talk. Oral presentations in the "Poster Discussion" sessions will be allotted 2 minutes and questions from the audience will be addressed during a 2 minute discussion period at the end of each talk. Given that the time of these oral "poster" presentations is limited, we ask each presenter to focus on the hypothesis, results and conclusions of his/her research (and to use a maximum of 3 PowerPoint slides).
Conference room facilities will include projection capability for PowerPoint slides, a computer to control slides from the podium and a laser pointer. PowerPoint presentations may be given to the audiovisual technicians during the registration period at the Firenze Fiera Palazzo dei Congressi (i.e. Florence Congress & Exhibition Center, 1:00 to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 22, 2010) or between 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM on the day of presentation.
For poster presentations, poster board dimensions will be 100 cm HIGH x 200 cm WIDE and pins will be made available. Detailed instructions (e.g. location) for presentation will be provided during registration at the Congress Center. Posters will be displayed from 7:00 AM to approximately 7:00 PM. On their designated day "poster" presenters are requested to be in attendance at the times listed in the scientific program.
TRAVEL
AWARDS
Florence 2010 Conference Travel Award
Program
The purpose
of this Award Program is to provide partial
travel support to at least 15 young investigators,
who demonstrate significant achievements in
the field of tear film and ocular surface research.
The amount of the Award will be $1,000 (USD;
European applicants) or $2,000 (USD; non-European
applicants). The Award will be accompanied by
a waiver of the registration and banquet fees,
and a complimentary TFOS Membership.
To apply
for this Award an applicant must be the abstract's
first author, as well as a student, and a postdoctoral
fellow, or an individual under the age of 35
years. In addition, the applicant must submit
an abstract by April 15, 2010. If an applicant
submits more than one abstract, he/she needs
to identify the abstract to be considered by
the Travel Awards Committee for consideration
for a Travel Award (only one abstract will be
considered per applicant). If the applicant's
abstract is accepted, his/her abstract will
be evaluated by members of the Travel Award
Committee. The applicant must be present at
the Conference to be eligible for a grant. Winners
will be notified by June 1, 2010, and they will
be announced at the Conference.
If an applicant
does not win an award, that individual must
register for the Conference by June 15, 2010,
in order to have their abstract considered for
presentation. If you have any questions about
this program, please contact Rose Sullivan at
